Rolling open fields, glistening lakes and winding trails; Crofton, Walton and Ryhill are surrounded by glorious countryside.
When it comes to dog walks, we don’t know how good we’ve really got it.
Here at Paw Legged Friends we just love exploring the area and finding new and exciting walks with our pooches.
We’ve put together a list of our faves, and we want to know about yours!
Walton Colliery Nature Park

A wildlife haven. Lose yourself among the tree-lined trails or spend some time with the baby geese at one of the many lakes. Special thanks to the volunteers who work so hard to make it such a pleasant place to walk!
The Sidings, Crofton
It runs half the length of Crofton, but you might not know it’s there! Plenty of green open space to let your dogs burn off some energy. Top tip: go uphill from bottom to top to really wear them out!
Off Middle Lane, between New Crofton and Nostell
Some lovely trails here and even another little lake to enjoy. Find the hidden path that joins up with Nostell Priory’s stunning upper lake!
Nostell Priory
Acres and acres of National Trust grounds to explore which match the majesty of the house. People come here from far and wide; we’ve got it on our doorstep!

Wintersett/Anglers Country Park
A popular spot and one of the best places for your pooch to make new friends and let loose. Loop round the lake then stop for a coffee with some new-found furry friends at the visitor centre – or a pint at the Angler’s Retreat! That’s one our top dog friendly pubs in Wakefield
So that’s a few of our favourites – where shall we go next?
